The City of Attleboro, Massachusetts Health Department ordered the closure of two of the three ice sheets at New England Sports Village<\/a>. Stephen Peterson of The Sun Chronicle<\/a> Newspaper reported this news on July 24. They reportedly closed the rinks because black mold was seen on the walls surrounding those two ice sheets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the article, the black mold grew as a result of malfunctioning dehumidifiers in the arena. The owners are remediating the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We conclude from this and other reports that the closure is temporary. The largest NESV<\/a> ice sheet remains open. This news is important, since New England Sports Village<\/a> is very heavily used by travel hockey tournaments. One example is the Junior Chowder Cup<\/a>, which is frequented by junior and college hockey scouts, and is coming up this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
