The Jersey City Municipal Council approved a resolution ratifying an emergency contract for replacement of the recreational ice rink chiller system<\/a> at Charlie Heger Ice Skating Rink<\/a> at Pershing Field (also known as Pershing Field Rink). This vote took place at a regular council meeting on May 22, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great deal of the history of the effort to get a repair of this outdoor arena through the Municipal Council<\/a> was documented by Stephanie Spear in The Hoboken Girl<\/em>. According to Spear’s article:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jersey City spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione tells\u00a0HG<\/em>\u00a0that \u201cAt the community\u2019s request, a portion of those funds are earmarked for near- and long-term solutions to fix the failing ice rink equipment. We are committed to having the ice rink open this winter. It\u2019s a complicated fix but it will be open.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Jersey City Capitals<\/a> youth hockey organization considers Charlie Heger Ice Skating Rink to be their home ice, although they were not able to play there consistently during the 2022-2023 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
