Black Bear Sports Group acquired Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Delaware for an undisclosed amount.
Patriot Ice Center is one of three privately-owned hockey arenas in Delaware. It was previously known as The Pond. This two-surface arena complex is home to The Delaware Ducks, a Tier-2 Youth Hockey Club that is a member of the Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL).
Black Bear Sports Group of Bethesda, Maryland is a private equity firm specializing in purchasing and operating undercapitalized, privately-held ice arenas. Most of Black Bear’s arenas are 20 to 30 years old when they are purchased. Murry Gunty founded the company.
Black Bear Sports Group now owns 16 ice hockey facilities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, and Connecticut.
