Hermantown, Minnesota, just west of Duluth, is getting a second indoor ice sheet, now that ground has been broken for the NorthStar Ford Arena. The groundbreaking took place on July 17.
Northern News Now reported this story. They provide video of shovels in the ground, comments from the mayor of Hermantown and the manager of the existing Hermantown Arena. Hermantown Arena was reportedly built in 1988.
Construction begins immediately. Expected completion date is December 2025.
The Duluth News Tribune reported that funding for NorthStar Ford Arena comes from a combination of a local sales tax, state bonds, and private financing. Presumably the naming rights to the new arena are part of the private financing package.
