The City of Attleboro, Massachusetts Health Department ordered the closure of two of the three ice sheets at New England Sports Village. Stephen Peterson of The Sun Chronicle Newspaper reported this news on July 24. They reportedly closed the rinks because black mold was seen on the walls surrounding those two ice sheets.
According to the article, the black mold grew as a result of malfunctioning dehumidifiers in the arena. The owners are remediating the situation.
We conclude from this and other reports that the closure is temporary. The largest NESV ice sheet remains open. This news is important, since New England Sports Village is very heavily used by travel hockey tournaments. One example is the Junior Chowder Cup, which is frequented by junior and college hockey scouts, and is coming up this weekend.
