Grand Sierra Resort unveiled updated plans for its proposed Reno Arena project, including a new on-property location, a practice rink, fan zone, and other modern amenities.
The main arena, expected to exceed 10,000 seats, will host basketball, hockey, concerts, and special events. The project planned for a 2026-27 opening originally, still awaits groundbreaking.
According to an article by Chris Murray for Nevada SportsNet:
The updated plans reveal a new on-property location, a satellite ice rink, a dedicated parking garage, a fan zone and several internal design elements. The arena would be home to the Nevada men’s basketball team and a potential AHL hockey team owned by the GSR’s Alex Mereulo.

Alex Meruelo owned the Arizona Coyotes before he sold the franchise back to the National Hockey League. The NHL resold the franchise to Ryan Smith of Smith Entertainment Group, who subsequently formed The Utah Hockey Club.
Reno Arena is apparently still intended to be completed, despite the fact that Meruelo does not currently have ownership interest in any hockey-related properties at the professional level.
