Sport-O-Rama Building Purchased By Real Estate Developer

On Tuesday Rockland County Business Journal reported the building that has housed Sport-O-Rama in Monsey New York for 45 years was sold to a real estate developer. Sport-O-Rama is an ice rink facility with two 200 x 85-foot surfaces. According to the article, Sport-O-Rama opened in 1974 and has always been a lease tenant of this building.

Robert Wolkon, a spokesman for Sport-O-Rama, reportedly said, “Our ice rink business is fully operational, and we intend to continue full hockey, figure skating and other current operations as an ice rink facility into the future.” Their lease on the building is apparently not affected by a building ownership change.

The article goes on to talk about reasons why the developer may have purchased the property and building, and how the property is zoned by The Town of Ramapo.

RinkAtlas has subsequently learned from sources within USA Hockey that Sport-O-Rama has several years left on its facility lease, so there is little or no risk that the arena will close or need to relocate in the foreseeable future.

RinkAtlas Arena Directory Updates

We updated the Sport-O-Rama entry in the RinkAtlas arena database to reflect that there are two NHL-sized ice sheets that opened in 1974. We also estimated the seating capacity of the larger rink at Sport-O-Rama at 800.
